Q&A: Indoor Paws Meets Beco Pets

posted in: Q&A Sessions | 0

In our ‘Q&A Sessions’ series, we speak to leading brands, local businesses and organisations in the cat world, to find out more about the people and paws behind the brands we love.

We love discovering new products and businesses whose aims are to enrich the lives of our indoor cats, or who provide practical products for our kitties benefits. Today we speak with Beco Pets, an ethical pet product brand.

Let’s find out more about them!…

Can you tell us a bit about what you do at Beco Pets? What is your mission or goal at Beco Pets?

Our mission is to make products that are better for pets and better for the environment. We aim to provide an eco-alternative for the ethically minded pet owner, without it costs an arm and a leg (or apaw and a tail).

How did Beco Pets start and when was it founded?

Beco Pets was founded in 2009 by Toby and George. George as an entrepreneurial eco-warrior and Toby an accomplished engineer and product designer. They joined forces to launch the Beco Bowl, a food and water bowl for pets. The Beco Bowl is from a biodegradable bamboo plastic.

Since then Beco Pets has expanded its range to catnip toys made from recycled plastic bottle to eco litter trays.

Who is the team made up of and what are their roles?

Over the past 9 years, the Beco team has expanded from George and Toby on a solo mission to a team of 14 people, including an in-house design team who develop all of Beco’s creations. Toby heads up design and development of new product ranges while George heads up the commercial aspects, managing the team that brings in the money.

White Cats Face

Can you tell us about the team of whiskered helpers you have?

Toby’s cat, Bruce, is our chief quality control officer. He has refined taste and ensures the Beco cat range is up to scratch.

Can you tell us a bit about the products you sell?

We make biodegradable low rimmed cat bowls made from the recycled bamboo of Chinese chopstick factories. From this same material, we have expanded our range to include hooded cat litter trays and litter scoops. We also have a range of catnip toys made from recycled plastic bottles, we melt down the plastic, stretch it into cotton-like fibres and use it to create double stitched cloth. We then stuff it with the finest North American catnip to keep our feline friends busy.

Can you talk us through the buying process when someone visits your website – what can they expect

We currently deliver to the UK when you order through our website. It is free UK delivery for orders over £20. We also sell internationally through a network of fantastic distributors.

If you would like to know where you can find Beco products you can reach us at +44 (0)20 8673 0943. A number of our products are available through Amazon Prime across Europe.

Do you have any plans to expand the Beco Pets brand in the future, particularly if you have any extra plans for cat-related goodies?

We are constantly developing and designing new product ranges so watch this space.

And just for fun!…

Do you prefer cats or dogs?

We love all animals. The Beco office is filled with cat and dog owners so it would be hard to say we prefer one or the other. Toby even has a team of ducks.

Do you have a favourite breed of cat, if so what is it and why?

We love cats of all ages, breeds and sizes.

If you could give one top tip to our readers that would enrich the lives of their indoor cats, what would it be?

We would recommend making sure your cat has a space they know is theirs. It gives them a sense of security and safety. Also, make sure you clean out your litter tray regularly. Cats are very clean animals so hygiene is paramount to their happiness.
